About Me

I am a professional educator after taking the long road to get here. I have had teaching in my heart for as long as I can remember, but life took me into other areas first. Many years of college, taking classes part-time while working, changing majors, starting a business, back to college to get another degree while working, then finally back to college again after deciding that life is too short to not be doing something you love!

I ended up with a total of 4 college degrees including 2 Masters Degrees and enough student loans that I will be paying forever, but now I have been teaching full time for nearly 7 years. That doesn't sound like very long, but it feels like a lifetime.

I have had the privilege of working with some of the best administrators and teachers in the world and though I feel like I have picked up a few things along the way I am by no means a "master" and recognize the need to always improve my practice and always be a nimble and changing teacher.

Since one of my graduate degrees is in the technology field this has been one of the areas of strength for me. The very first college-level teaching course that I was part of was focused on teaching kids with technology and using technology to modify and even redefine education tasks. This has lead me to create this website to provide tools, tips, and resources that I have found or created in my quest to be the Changing Teacher.

This doesn't mean that the importance of the teacher is changing. It doesn't mean that the role of the teacher is changing. It doesn't mean that the teacher is being replaced. It means that how we build the bridge between our students and learning may need to change.

I am a strong believer that as an educator my job is to facilitate learning in my classroom. I am not the "source of all knowledge" but I build a bridge so my students can access the learning. Each student needs a little different bridge to get there and it may take more work to build for some, but that doesn't change my job. The challenges that I face and obstacles in the way are what make it necessary for me to become the Changing Teacher.
